We are based in East Lothian, with clients in the Scottish Borders, Edinburgh and UK-wide. We are very happy to meet with you to discuss your project, offering a very personal and customised service.
Kim Ritchie specialises in information architecture and the design and implementation of website content management systems that are Easy to Use. She has managed website projects for Scottish Enterprise, the NHS, the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh's Telford College, the Edinburgh Festivals, and many small to medium sized businesses, and served as a board member with her Local Enterprise Company.
Kim will be your primary project contact, responsible for specifying how your site will be structured and administered, setting the site and systems up, and showing you how to manage the site yourself.
Graeme Ritchie, BSc in Computer Science from Heriot Watt University. Graeme has worked in corporate IT for all of his working life, designing, building and implementing a large variety of IT systems. He's worked with various relational databases for all of the those 25 years and has about 15 years' experience in web technologies. He has built websites, large-scale web applications and iphone Apps, and has a keen interest in mobile-friendly web applications for a wide variety of functions. He is responsible for the technical planning and development of Redstone's sites and assists with guidance on professional IT disciplines and working practices.
We will use our combined 40 years' experience to help you plan what you want your website to deliver, and what you want to do with it. We will then develop your site to fit your requirements exactly, but with an eye to keeping it flexible enough to accommodate future needs.
We can then host the site on your own choice of hosting platform, taking care of domain name administration and email management if required. You will not be tied to us for future development or management - although we will do our best to make sure you are completely happy with our service and choose to remain as our valued clients.

Architect Richard Murphy required a clean, modern, responsive site to promote and sell his new achitectural journal about the Castelvecchio museum in Verona, "Carlo Scarpa and Castelvecchio Revisited". The entire site can be viewed in English or Italian and supports online sales using Paypal.
Body Beautiful beauty salon have moved to a new premises in Portobello, and wanted to upgrade their website to reflect their new shop branding, as well as something that would work well on mobile and tablet platforms.
We designed a simple, modern, one-page site to give information about the treatments they offer, prices, special offers and brief information about the business. Because they have limited updating requirements, we kept the costs down by offering a monthly update service within the annual maintenance fee, rather than implementing a full content management system.
We also provide website hosting and email management for the site on a new domain name.
An elegant, but simple and modern "single page "site for author John Young to coincide with the launch of his new book, "Farewell Tour of a Terminal Optimist". John keeps this site interesting and encourages re-visits with regular updatres to his blog.
Our very own website!
Our site is a single page design using elegant transitions as the user navigates between its "virtual pages".
We hope you like it.
Brand new front end look and feel to existing site in order to modernise and freshen up the site. Fully responsive design featuring gift voucher sales Paypal with live webcams and a live feed from the airfield weather station.
New look mobile friendly Home page. New map feature.
A fully responsive upgrade to the original Richard Murphy Architects website. The remit was for the original design to remain entirely unchanged on large screens but to elegantly resize for smaller/mobile devices.
In addition, a new, responsive interactive map function was introduced to replace the dated, hard coded original maps. The new map function allows the user to zoom in and out, across the globe, and be presented with a geographical representation of where Richard's numerous incredible projects are clustered and located. The clusters can be drilled into down to individual project level and project pages can be selected from the map via a small preview photograph popup. (Revamped site still to go live.)
The Isle of Gigha Community Trust needed to revamp their website to promote new attractions on the Island, including new Mooring facilities.
Creating a website for an entire Island is no mean feat, and we provided an easy to use, flexible framework for them to collect and organise all their new content, which enabled them to accommodate new requests and content from everyone who wanted to be represented on the site.
They complemented all this information with a collection of stunning photographs of the island, which they can easily manage and update using Flickr.
They can also promote events on the island such as their annual music festival, and will be able to keep the website up to date by themselves.
Reiff Beach Cottage wanted a brand new look and feel to fully convey the stunningly scenic setting of this holiday property. The owner wanted to be able to add in new photos and new testimonials from satisfied guests, and keep the Availability Calendar up to date with current rates and booked periods.
We provided an uncluttered, modern, fully responsive look and feel with a 'marine' colour palette, which conveys the ethos and atmosphere of the cottage and its surroundings, and presents well on desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones. A new photo gallery allows photos to be presented in themed groupings, with stylish transitions and an easy to use slide-viewer to enhance the user experience.
We quickly developed Cosnadh's original website a few years ago as a very simple, 'web presence' when the business started up. Now that the business has matured, they needed a complete redesign to promote their services, products and impressive client list.
We worked closely with their sales team to identify their expertise, products and services, and built a website where potential clients can easily see how Cosnadh can work with them by identifying with other clients, similar problems to solve, or expertise with products that they have or want to use.
The site has been very well received, and we will continue to work with them to build up content and case studies. The content-rich site will rank well in internet search engines for their chosen search terms.
The Gigha Hotel is under new ownership, and to complement the general upgrading and modernising of the hotel, we developed a fresh, new, modern website for them. The website adapts seamlessly to mobile, tablet and desktop browsers, and the owner is able to update and manage his photographic slideshows on the website as the accommodation is developed via his Flickr account.
The site is expandable so that new attractions, features and information can be added by the owner to the relevant website sections, and links to a third party online booking and availability system. Special offers and events can be featured on the home page.
There is also a 'behind the scenes' administration system to collect mooring and landing fees, which will generate relevant summary reports.
This site fulfilled a new business's urgent requirement for a web presence to coincide with a tight opening schedule for their shop the week before christmas.
With little direction or content from our clients, we designed a modern, responsive website to compliment the look and feel of the physical shop, with the ability to order selection boxes online for christmas.
Together with an energetic social media marketing campaign, our clients obtained several online orders for selection boxes within a week of going live with the website!
Formerly the Indigent Gentlewomen's Fund, the Royal Society for the Support of Women in Scotland underwent some major changes, with a new logo, name and updating some of their operational aims and objectives.
To complement this, we designed a new website for them, which would look nice on mobile and tablet devices, be more search engine friendly and allow more information about the society to be presented in an easily navigated website.
The site is hugely enhanced by carefully sourced photographs, which manage to convey the ethos of the Charity in ways that words can't.
Jenny and Amrit wanted a simple website where guests could log in to get event details, travel and accommodation information. Since the wedding is a few months hence, we can update the information as required, so guests can be kept up to date with arrangements.
The site was quickly built to coordinate with their wedding stationery, and guests were emailed out a password to access it.
Classic Adventure is a new activity holiday company targetting a niche market. The company intends to expand the range of activities offered, and required a website that would grow with their business without expensive re-development.
Redstone Websites provided a modern, eye-catching, responsive website design which would prominently feature striking photos of the activities and scenery on offer, and allow the company to build up a portfolio of activities and holidays.
Online booking and payment is facilitated by PayPal, and availability is updated once bookings have been received. Additional activity areas can be built up over time, with the company having full ability to add and change photos, activity packages and holiday dates.
The new MacPlants website takes full advantage of the proprietor's beautiful and high quality photographs of the plants available. A complete redesign displays these photographs to the full, and enhanced classification of the plants allow users to find plants to suit a location, season or colour scheme. Plants can be paid for online using PayPal, or ordered for collection from the Nursery.
The site can be easily updated by the proprietor through the intuitive web-based interface, and the layout adapts seamlessly to different display devices such as smartphones and notebooks.
Within hours of the relaunch, customers were making purchases successfully on line, and commenting on the ease of use of the site.
Redpath Tyres are a well established independent tyre distributor with depots all over Scotland and Northern England. Having developed their previous site several years ago, we have now completely updated it with a fully responsive design that will work seamlessly on mobile and tablet devices.
Their unique Used Agricultural Tyre listing with intelligent search and filtering has been maintained, which is updated on a regular basis by their own staff directly from their stock lists.
A third party car registration lookup service has been configured to return appropriate tyre sizes for specific cars, as well as a normal tyre size search. Tyres are displayed with photos and full specifications, and are added to a shopping basket. Customers are invited to select options such as wheel alignment, and a depot and time for a fitting appointment.
The payment is processed by Paypal, either with an existing Paypal account or simply by credit or debit card.
The new site gives a comprehensive overview of all the services provided by Redpath Tyres and its various depots, and allows customers to interact with them easily through their web browsers on computers, laptops, tablets and mobile devices.
Perrigo Marketing are the sole UK distributors of a specialised product range of odour filters for the water and waste water industries. They required a stylish site that enabled their customers to easily purchase their required filters and associated accessories.
Products are carefully grouped together so that appropriate accessories are presented with each main product item for ease of purchase, with plenty of explanation and description of the product items themselves, including photo galleries where appropriate.
UK customers can order and pay for their products by credit or debit card via Paypal, with our system calculating the delivery charge based on the weight of the order. Non-UK orders are sent by email so that the delivery charge can be applied manually.
The site is fully responsive, working seamlessly on mobile and tablet devices.
The trustees and FAB team are very pleased with the outcome of our launch, and I personally really like the appearance and functionality of our website.
Thank you so much for all your hard work, it is much appreciated!
I was instantly and absolutely captivated by Gigha when I visited in 2015, and cannot wait until I return. I think of Gigha every single day. Your website captures this magic and I thank you for putting together such a great site!
Being in a visual industry I am particularly influenced by visuals - and I think it is now exactly how I imagined.
Our site is a vital tool for providing services to members and bringing in new business. Redstone Websites are quick to respond to requests for enhancements and always proactive at suggesting improvements.
.. .but why no entry for Mecanopsis'?!
An excellent, informative and easy site to move around. Pity my plant buying days are over.
Thanks again for your prompt response and timely execution which got us up in running in a challenging timeframe.
The website has been working wonderfully well and I’ve been singing its praises in my emails to everyone! You did a fantastic job Kim, you and Graeme, and had I been staying on with FAB, it would have been a pleasure to continue to use it and work with you both.

Another good job done by Redstone
Simply put, Web Content Management really just means a web system where the website owner can update their site with no technical or programming knowledge and without recourse to their web development company for every little change. Typically, this means business owners can keep their websites up to date with new text (content), new products, new photos and images, amended prices, etc, etc and they can do this very quickly and easily. They also avoid the costs involved in contracting their web development company to make simple content changes.
All of this means their website is more likely to be visited as users and customers will come back for repeat visits. The site will feel "fresh" and "vibrant" - not dormant.
At Redstone Websites we strive to make this ability for you to update your site as straightforward and easy as possible.
In a word: yes.
Redstone Websites realise that at some point in the future you may want to seek out a new web development company to support or enhance your system. You are free to do that if you choose and the web code developed by Redstone that drives your website and the database on which your data resides is yours to do with as you please.
Redstone Websites does understand that you may not want to be tied in to us forever and for that reason we provide that guarantee of flexibility for you. Other web companies may not all offer this flexibility but we want you to trust us to deliver a first class system and support and we want you to want to remain with us - but we will not force you to do so.
Open Source Software is software where the original developer or develpers have made their product free for others to use, enhance or amend, however they please. Huge technical communities tend build up around the best Open Source packages and thus a large network of support and knowledge quickly develops.
The two primary platforms on which vast numbers of websites are built are the proprietry Microsoft .NET platform, and the Free Open Source LAMP platform. There are some technical differences but both are capable of delivering stable, secure and scalable web sites and web applications. Popular advice is to choose whichever platform you can most easily find the technical resources to build for you. From a developer's perspective the advice is to go with whichever you feel most comfortable with.
At Redstone Websites, our sites are built on the very widely-used Free Open Source platform known as LAMP (Linux operating system, Apache web server, MySQL relational databse and PHP programming language). We are very experienced in deploying to this platform and an added benefit, of course, is that there are no costly development, or recurring licences to pay for which would need to be funded though our charges to our clients. This helps us keep the prices we quote to you, both for development and ongoing support, as low as possible.
No two sites are the same and we'll get to know your aspirations and requirements before we make you a competitive quote. Prices may vary from £300 for a very small and simple site to upward of £5000 for a highly complex eCommerce site with many of our application features.
Any personal information we collect from you will be processed in accordance with, and will comply with, the Data Protection Act 1998. This information is used for processing your request, and for auditing usage of our web site. You may ask us to cease sending the aforementioned information at any time.
We may monitor usage of our web site to enable us to update and tailor same to the needs of users. We may also keep a record of those links which are most regularly used, thus enabling us to provide the most helpful information to our users. Such information is held anonymously and the provider of same cannot be identified.
Certain data may be collected by "cookies"(www.aboutcookies.org), which are temporary internet files placed on your computer's hard drive by your web browser. This enables us to collect information such as the time spent on our web site and the pages used. Again, this information is held anonymously. Any such information held by Redstone Websites will not be disclosed to any third parties.
We do not store credit card details nor do we share customer details with any 3rd parties.
This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. If stylesheets are turned off, or not supported by your browser, the content on this site can still be accessed and read. All fonts are relative allowing users to resize text if required.
